We’re thrilled to extend our heartfelt thanks to the esteemed gentlemen from Knights of Columbus St. Mary’s Council 8611! On April 9th, we had the privilege of hosting them for a special occasion: a generous donation of $2,000 to the Grandview Kids Foundation. Their support is truly inspiring!
During their visit, we had the pleasure of showing them around our headquarters in Oshawa and discussing the exciting progress of Grandview Kids’ new facility in Ajax. Their interest and generosity mean the world to us. Thanks to remarkable donors like the incredible gentleman at St. Mary’s Council 8611, the Grandview Kids Foundation can support the work of Grandview Kids so that children and youth in the Durham Region can live, learn and play.
Thank you, St. Mary’s Council 8611!

Elexicon Energy pledges multi-year commitment to Grandview Kids
Elexicon Energy has pledged a multi-year commitment to Grandview Kids via its Foundation to support children and youth in Durham Region with physical, communication and developmental needs. This partnership will help more kids and youth with disabilities live life to their full potential.
“At Elexicon Energy, we believe our organization has a key role to play in empowering our customers, employees and communities during this complex and difficult time,” says Lesley Gallinger, President and CEO, Elexicon Energy. “Our partnership with Grandview Kids is critical to the future well-being of the communities across our service territory that have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic.”
Elexicon Energy’s multi-year commitment will help to provide life-changing services, such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, behavioural supports and paediatrics. It will also help families address speech language and audiology concerns, and support their well-being through therapeutic recreation and social work. Demand for these services in Durham Region currently exceeds 19,000 children and youth.
Community support, like what is being received from Elexicon Energy, is even more important now, given how the COVID-19 pandemic has negatively affected charity fundraising. By choosing to give local, Elexicon Energy is ensuring that Grandview Kids is better prepared to help local kids grow and thrive.
“It is our absolute pleasure to be able to partner with Elexicon Energy to help kids and youth in our community to live their best life,” says Brigitte Tschinkel, Executive Director at Grandview Kids Foundation. “So much will be possible for these clients because of Elexicon’s help.”

TD Bank Group—An Inspiring Commitment!
We’re pleased to have the chance to highlight the incredible support that TD Bank Group has offered to Grandview Kids over the years. Back in 2015, these loyal friends made a $200,000 commitment toward building and supporting the New Grandview. They’ve also sponsored and participated in many of our fundraising events over the years, helping to provide life-changing therapy to many children and youth in Durham.
This past July, TD Bank Group made another one-time donation of $10,000 to help children and youth at Grandview Kids to live life to their full potential. When asked what prompted this generous gift, Blayre Parsons, Associate, Community Banking & External Events, had this to say:
“Our communities need us now more than ever in light of the pandemic. We are providing funding to Grandview Kids to ensure that our communities remain resilient and those most vulnerable are taken care of.”
It’s reassuring to have loyal friends like TD Bank Group who have stood by our side during the uncertainty of this pandemic. We are also pleased to have TD representatives sit on our Board of Directors and other fundraising committees.
The TD Ready Commitment signifies a desire by TD Bank Group to work together for a more inclusive tomorrow, giving everyone the chance to succeed in a changing world. TD is currently focused on supporting virtual and remote engagement opportunities throughout the pandemic by providing its employees with volunteer opportunities, and grants for volunteerism that they can direct to the organization of their choice.
TD Bank Group supports Grandview Kids under their Connected Communities – Local Needs pillars which aims to help groups who are vulnerable to social isolation to build connections in their community.
“We hope that by supporting Grandview Kids, TD can play a small part in helping the children of Durham make meaningful connections. Grandview Kids is making a big impact in our community, and the children who benefit from their programming deserve your support.”
We are so proud to have TD Bank Group as part of our Grandview Kids family. Thank you to this amazing group of people for showing such loyalty and generosity over the years. Your support means so much, especially during this challenging time.
Selling face masks = helping Grandview kids!
If you’ve been into The Glass Slipper, or Watson Farm Market in Bowmanville recently, you may have seen some face masks (made by Giselle) for sale at the cash. Did you buy one? If so, you’ve played an important role in helping Grandview kids live their best life, as all the money raised is being donated to Grandview.
This fundraising initiative came about because of a partnership between Giselle (mask maker and long-time Grandview supporter), Tami from Watson Farm Market and Marg from The Glass Slipper.
“It all started with Tami asking if I would make some masks for her employees,” says Giselle. “We’ve always had a craft booth at the market to support Grandview, so she asked me if I’d like to help raise money by selling masks. I thought if I could sell 100 that would be great, but so far we’ve raised more than $16,000!”
According to Tami at Watson Farm Market: “I didn’t have to think too hard about getting involved. I’ve always supported Grandview as well and I’m happy to see the money going somewhere good. As soon as the promotion was advertised on Facebook, there were a lot of people coming in saying ‘My friends went to Grandview, I’m coming in to support just for that.’ Once the kids went back to school and needed masks to wear, they wanted to take advantage of the opportunity.”
When Giselle messaged Marg at The Glass Slipper about also getting involved, her first response was that she didn’t want to make any money from it and wanted to see all the money go to Grandview.
We have such an incredible community of friends and supporters, including the three wonderful ladies involved with this initiative.
We’d like to thank Giselle for working so hard on these masks to support Grandview (and she’s got Halloween and Christmas versions in the works—so stay tuned!), as well as Tami and Marg for allowing the masks to be sold at their businesses. This is a great example of people working together to help the kids in their community.
“Customer response has been quite phenomenal,” says Marg. “I put a sign up saying where the money would go, and once I told them about it I got a huge response, especially after I put it up on Facebook.”
We are so grateful that Grandview has been included in this very successful (and on-going) initiative. Giselle, Tami and Marg have shown incredible leadership in their community and we are delighted to have them on our side supporting Grandview kids. You are truly wonderful!
“Supporting places like Grandview makes our entire community stronger!”
Bruce and Sue Watson own two Home Hardware stores in Oshawa. Their second store (opened last year) can be found at 600 Grandview St. S., just down the street from Grandview Children’s Centre’s main site.
When Bruce and Sue opened their second store, they knew right away that they wanted to align themselves with a community charity that was all Canadian and local. They decided to support Grandview Kids!
“Sue and I really wanted to give back to other parents who may be struggling through different situations,” says Bruce.
As well as undertaking in-store initiatives that promote and benefit Grandview Kids, they have also signed up as Golf Fore Grandview sponsors for the last two years.
Since becoming friends of Grandview, Bruce and Sue have realized that Grandview Kids has a much bigger impact of their community than they could have imagined. Their reaction from their customers to in-store initiatives benefitting Grandview Kids has been incredible. According to Bruce, “100% have been pleased that we are offering this support!”
Bruce and Sue’s stores have remained open during recent challenging times and they have been helping people get the supplies they need to keep busy while staying at home. As a business owner, and Durham resident for the past 25 years, Bruce feels that it is important for independently-owned stores like his to contribute to local services like Grandview.
“Supporting places like Grandview makes our entire community stronger!” he says.
With our Golf Tournament postponed until next year, Bruce and Sue have stepped up to help purchase headsets that will allow Grandview therapists to provide therapy from home.
We thank them for this generous contribution which will go a long way toward helping our kids during this time.
