The Kendal Lions Club has been serving our community and surrounding area since 2004. Grandview Kids recently benefitted from their incredible generosity when they donated $200 worth of children’s books for our kids.
Thank you to the Kendal Lions Club for this caring donation!
Because of you, Grandview kids will be able to learn new words and make important connections to events happening in their own life or to other stories they’ve heard. Many authors of the books also have websites with free materials to print for further review at home or in therapy sessions.
The stack of donated books included three copies of The Very Cranky Bear by Nick Bland – which helps kids hear new words like ‘fetch’ or ‘marvelous’ that they can use in their everyday routine.
Here are some other titles from Scholastic that can help kids learn:
Me Too by Mercer Mayer’s – which helps kids build longer phrases by practising the same phrase multiple times when reading the book.
Sneezy the Snowman by Maureen Wright – which targets speech sounds and allows kids to see how many times they see the word ‘snow’.
There’s a Wocket in my Pocket by Dr. Seuss – which targets early reading skills such as rhyming.
If You Give A Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff – which allows children to practise retelling a story using temporal language like ‘first, and then, and last.’
