What does it take to organize a successful fundraiser? Passion for what you are fundraising for
This inaugural Family Fund Day was organized to help raise funds for both Grandview Kids and the MS Society of Canada. The organizers were passionate about raising funds for each organization because of how inspired they were by the services, people and help they received.
One of the organizers is a Grandview Kids mom, and her daughter’s name is Mya, who was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy (CP) and has been receiving Grandview Kids services such as physiotherapy and speech therapy. Her mom says, “Grandview Kids has helped Mya so much; she is their number one fan, so we were so inspired by the incredible help we received that we wanted to create a fundraiser to support all the life-changing work they do.”
When we have passion for a cause, anything is possible.
All this passion and inspiration is what led Mya’s mom, her aunt (who has MS), and other family and friends to create this fundraiser. In addition, the fundraiser was meant to highlight and support women and children of colour who experience chronic illness and disability in a fun way. It was a sunshine-filled day for families and children to enjoy bouncy castles, balloons, music, face painting, games, a DJ, cotton candy, and amazing food by Ebony Bites food truck featuring unique and great-tasting Caribbean food.
Mya’s dad got involved, too, helping with the location of the fundraiser being held at his gym, Apex Gym. There were so many wonderful people who attended this event in Ajax, and we can’t wait for next year’s event!
